Rev. David Hookins - Superintendant Minister with oversight of Salisbury Methodist Church & Wellow Wood
I spent 16 years working in marine insurance in the City of London before training for the Methodist ministry
at The Queen's College in Birmingham. I served in Taunton and Ringwood before coming to Salisbury in 2012.
I am married with two children. Our time in Ringwood saw both of our children through secondary school and
they are now away from home.
To keep fit I try to run regularly. I enjoy reading both for work and pleasure.
Rev. Steve Hawkes - oversight of Bemerton & Bourne Valley
Hi. My name is Steve and I've been a minister within the Salisbury Circuit Methodist Church since September 2015. This is my first appointment since leaving theological college and it's been a really exciting time, discerning what God is calling us to do both within our churches and also in the communities that surround us.
I firmly believe that the church is the only organisation that exists for those who are NOT currently members, and that we need to get beyond the walls of the church building in order to connect with those around us as we live out our call to service.
Over the past year we have started holding Alpha Courses at Bemerton Methodist Church and there are others planned within the circuit too. If you would like to come along to one of these, please let us know as you would be made most welcome. The idea is to gently explore the meaning of life and faith together in a relaxed and non-threatening atmosphere. The main question we seek to ask is "Is there more to life than this?"
I'm looking forward to what the coming year will bring and to all that God will lead us to explore in and through the name of the risen Christ.
Rev. Anna Bishop - oversight of Fordingbridge and Sandleheath
Rev. Paul Rees - oversight of Amesbury, Shrewton and Winterslow
My name is Paul Rees and I'm the Minister for three churches, Amesbury, Sherewton and Winterslow.
I'm a passionate person who loves to keep fit. I've run marathons, Ultra-marathons, Triathlons and
recently finished my first full distance Ironman. I fancy the Tour de France next. I love movies and
consider myself a teller and collector of stories.
When I was 33yrs old, not having gone to Church before in my life I had a Spiritual experience that
changed my life completely. I was as shocked as anyone else around me at the time that I'd
become a Christian. If you want to know that story give me a ring or come and find me, but I will ask
you for your story too. In my training for the Church i've been mistaken for a homeless person and
given soup and was remanded in Durham Prison as an inmate, for some reason they didn't think
I worked for the Church.. hopefully see you soon.
Rev. Chris Jones - oversight of Woodfalls
Rev. Cecil King - oversight of Downton
Rev. Bryan Coates - oversight of Pitton
Bryan Coates was born and brought up in Wolverhampton - and still supports that city's famous football team but "how are the mighty fallen?".
After school he worked for five years in the Civil Service in the local Inland Revenue Office before candidating for the ministry.
He trained at Richmond and Westhill Colleges. In a 40 year span he served in the Ashford (Kent) Circuit, through the Methodist Missionary Society with the United Church of Zambia, in the Birmingham (Sutton Park Circuit), in the Eastleigh Circuit at Chandler's Ford and in the South East Berkshire Circuit at Wokingham.
Retiring in 2007 he returned to live in Chandler's Ford and has served for periods as Acting Superintendent of the Meon Valley, Romsey and this Circuit.
Bekkie Wright - Lay Pastoral Assistant at Fordingbridge & Sandleheath
Acting Child Protection Officer
I returned to the Salisbury Circuit in July 2015, having left in 1998 to
follow a career in law. However, over time, I realised that I was being
called to follow a different path. In 2004 I left paid employment and
undertook a number of voluntary jobs working with children's nurseries, a
multi-cultural support group, a Parent and Toddler group and a detached
youth work team.
In 2007 I returned to full time paid employment when I joined a local
authority day nursery based in a Children and Family Centre in an area
of deprivation. I rose through the ranks to become Deputy Manager and
then, in 2013, along with my colleagues, we set up a business to take over
the running of the nursery as a community business.
The nursery quickly grew and moved from strength to strength and as it did so I once again felt Gods call to move on to the next place where my skills and knowledge could be used in his kingdom. And so I returned to the Salisbury Circuit and am now the Lay Pastoral Assistant for Amesbury and Shrewton.
I live with my cat, Squeaker. I like cross-stitch sewing and am an avid reader. I also like the idea of walking, but have not yet put it into practice, despite the beautiful countryside around us. I am sure I will take that first walk at some point in the (near) future.
